Outline
We’ll think about compositional aspects of poetry, see how poets use them to shape their creative practice, and then establish a simple critical approach that can be used to reveal the powerful complexities of poems by working with an example. These skills are particularly helpful for enjoying poetry and approaching the unseen poetry questions at GCSE and A level.
If you have time, you can also make your own poems using an influential Avant Garde approach to poetic composition.
What’s in the box? - a narrated PowerPoint with exercises to help students explore and develop their knowledge of poetry, a poem to work with, a handout to explain what just happened – oh, and a poem to cut into little pieces and make a new one.
