Martin Fiddler

Responsibilities

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering within the School of Creative Arts and Engineering and course leader for the BEng(Hons) Aeronautical Engineering degree.

I am the Admissions Tutor for the Department of Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate courses, making the final decision on whether applicants can join us

I undertake international student recruitment, usually in India, and give guest lectures there two or three times a year.

I am the Branch Secretary of the lecturers' union UCU.

About Me

Before working at the university, I worked at Lucas Aerospace in Wolverhampton as a graduate apprentice, then as an aircraft design engineer.

I used to fly light aircraft and have flown solo, and have also flown gliders I enjoy travel and have been to over 100 countries. 

I am a magistrate on the Wolverhampton Bench and a School Governor of Weston Road Academy Trust in Stafford.

  • MSc in Computer Aided Engineering

  • LLM in progress

I have an Advanced Type Rating on the Boeing 737 aircraft simulator and instruct student pilots on a commercial B737 simulator.  I also have an Multi engine Type rating obtained on a Piper Seneca simulator.

I am regularly asked to comment on air crashes and incidents on the radio.
