Course delivery

At University of Staffordshire, we’re all about helping you become a top-notch biomedical scientist. We kick things off with tutor-led activities to get you comfortable and confident. Expect to spend a lot of time in the lab or out in the field during your first two years. By your final year, you’ll be diving into your own research project, honing those specialist skills.

We blend theory with practice, so you’ll get to see concepts in action. Our sessions mix lectures, seminars, and plenty of hands-on laboratory work, making learning dynamic and engaging.

And don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of online resources to keep you on track. With our sensible class sizes, you’ll get the individual support you need to become a confident critical thinker and decision maker.

Semester one activities

In your first few weeks at University of Staffordshire, you’ll dive straight into the heart of biomedical science. You’ll spend significant time in our state-of-the-art laboratories, learning essential practical competencies that are crucial for your future career.

Alongside this hands-on experience, you’ll get up to speed with your initial modules:

Genetics and Diversity

Molecular and Cellular Biology

Disease, Health and Environment

These foundational subjects will give you a solid grounding in the key concepts and techniques you’ll need throughout your degree. But it’s not just about the science facts. From the very beginning, you’ll also start building your career and professional development skills in the “Developing Research and Professional Development” module.

This course is designed to help you become a well-rounded professional, equipping you with the research skills and professional competencies that employers value. By integrating these elements early on, we ensure that you’re not only learning the science but also preparing for a successful career in biomedical science.
