Welcome to your Counselling course

Welcome to University of Staffordshire

We know you're already passionate about your subject, which is why we're excited you've chosen University of Staffordshire as the place to turn possibility into reality.

To give you an insight into what life as a Counselling student is like, your course leaders have prepared introductions to the course and further activities.

Welcome to the University Certificate in Counselling Course. We are very much looking forward to working with you. The course will be running on Wednesday mornings between 9.30am-13:00pm starting on Wednesday 25 September in the Science Building.

First activity

The course is delivered face to face except for tutorials which are offered online using MS Teams. The evening usually includes a theory or ethics lecture, a personal development group session or activity and time to practice counselling skills in triads or small groups. Opportunity is given for whole group, small group, paired and individual work throughout the course.

The course has three modules:

  1. Counselling Standards and Ethical Awareness
  2. Exploring Theory and Developing Counselling Skills
  3. Developing Critical Reflexivity in Counselling

A reading list will be made available to you on Blackboard and you will be able to access this after enrolment.

Reflective Workshop Day

On Saturday 28th September we have a compulsory reflective workshop day on campus. The day will include a range of activities designed to help you get to know each other and to begin the journey of self-reflection and personal development that is necessary for the course. Further details will be available to you after enrolment.

Reading lists for each module will be available on Blackboard following enrolment.
