This module is designed for practitioners who work in either acute or community care setting including, District nurses, Enter the content for the course.

Practice Nurses, Paramedics, ITU nurses, pulmonary rehabilitation, and secondary care nurses. It will enable students to gain the knowledge and skills to manage patients with COPD, and asthma and differentiate between the two conditions.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: Individual Modules Care and Management of Asthma and COPD

Every Thursday for 12 weeks from 09.00 – 13.00 ( apart from first day which is a full day)

Summative presentation assessment

  • 8 July 2027

Written Assignment

  • First submission 16 July 2027

Course content

The focus of this module is for you to be able to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage patients with Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and to have an understanding of the pathophysiology of COPD and its differentiation from Asthma and foster an understanding of the needs of patients with Asthma and COPD by developing your competence and confidence in assessing and managing the needs of these patients.

The module has been created to improve the care provided to patients with Asthma & COPD as it is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the UK.

The module aims to improve the knowledge base of health professionals working with Asthma & COPD patients in hospital or community settings to enhance the level of patient care and will empower the health professional to make an early intervention and ensure treatment is of the highest standard.

This module can be studied at level 6 or 7.

Entry requirements

This module is intended for qualified health professionals working with patients in general practices, the wider community, paramedics and hospital or long-term residential care environments, all must have access to a client group with COPD & or Asthma.

Teaching and assessment

Learning support

In addition to the excellent support you will receive from your course teaching team, our central Academic Skills team provides group and one-to-one help to support your learning in a number of areas. These include:

  • study skills such as reading, note-taking and presentation skills
  • written English, including punctuation and grammatical accuracy
  • academic writing and how to reference
  • research skills
  • critical thinking and understanding arguments
  • revision, assessment and examination skills
  • time management
