Our module covers the care of patients with diabetes in primary and secondary care situations, and your teaching and learning will be tailored to your current professional needs.

With us, you will build your knowledge base from biology/pathophysiology to explore the specific care needs of the group due to disease progression, linking with areas of health education, teaching, monitoring, support and the wider health care team involvement in the long term and holistic care management required by the person with a diagnosis of diabetes.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: Individual Modules Care and Management of People with Diabetes Mellitus

Course content

You will explore a range of topics during the module, including support issues, nutrition, pathophysiology, long term management and sexual health.

This module will also take you through the latest research and treatment options available, and the multicultural issues that are associated with diabetes mellitus.

Teaching and assessment

Learning support

In addition to the excellent support you will receive from your course teaching team, our central Academic Skills team provides group and one-to-one help to support your learning in a number of areas. These include:

  • study skills such as reading, note-taking and presentation skills
  • written English, including punctuation and grammatical accuracy
  • academic writing and how to reference
  • research skills
  • critical thinking and understanding arguments
  • revision, assessment and examination skills
  • time management

Additional support

Our Student Inclusion Services support students with additional needs such as sensory impairment, or learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
