Workplace learning

Kick-start your career with a placement at Jaguar Land Rover, KMF, Siemens and Eurocopter and more.

Develop advanced skills

Gain expert technical knowledge and stand out from the crowd with an integrated masters option.

Our engineering graduates have worked on everything from the Mars space rover to luxury Bentley cars. Now you could be following in their footsteps.

Whether you’re interested in transforming transport and communications, developing renewable energy systems or creating AI-powered robots, we’ll prepare you for a wide range of careers. You could be at the forefront of designing the systems and structures of the future.

Our well-established courses range from automotive and electrical, to mechanical and aeronautical engineering. They are aligned to industry needs and accredited by bodies such as IET and IMechE on behalf of the Engineering Council. This means they meet professional standards and can help put you on the path towards chartered engineer status.

You will get plenty of hands-on experience, including live projects and industry collaborations. You could be designing prototypes using our 3D scanner, testing aircraft controls with our flight simulator or even racing your own vehicle at Silverstone.

And you’ll have the chance to spend a year working in industry too. Our students have completed placements with world-leading companies, such as Boeing, Airbus and the National Grid.

Why study with us?

You’ll get hands-on, applying your knowledge to real problems and innovative solutions. This will test both your analytical and technical skills, and help you to become career-ready.

You could be investigating how to improve a product or process – or coming up with your own invention. Recent student projects have ranged from creating a robot spider through to designing a wireless measuring device for golfers.

Our personalised approach means you will receive lots of support as well, with your own academic mentor.

And you’ll be taught by a team of academics who combine real-world engineering experience with research expertise. Through their research, they are driving advances in everything from renewable energy systems and wireless sensor networks to smart healthcare.

Careers and connections

Our graduates have gone on to lots of exciting destinations, including roles with the RAF, supercar specialists McLaren, and engineering firm Mott MacDonald. It all began for them at University of Staffordshire.

As a student here, you could be tackling real-world projects, entering industry competitions and exhibiting at high-profile events such as our GradEX Degree Show.

You’ll also develop the connections that open doors, with opportunities for placements with a variety of leading companies. These include the luxury car marker Bentley, whose head of production innovation is a University of Staffordshire graduate, along with firms like Capula, KMF and Jaguar Land Rover.

From aerospace and renewable energy to car systems that are purely electrical, it’s a really exciting time to be an engineer!
