Introducing your course leader - Dr Trust Diya

Hello, my name is Dr Trust Diya and I am the lead for your undergraduate Biomedical Science course. I am an HCPC registered biomedical scientist with a passion for teaching and research in Biomedical Science.

The course is taught by a range of highly experienced lecturers most of whom are HCPC registered biomedical scientists with many years of experience in pathology laboratories. The teaching team boasts many other experienced lecturers and technical staff who bring lectures, workshops and laboratory experiences to life. In this course you will enjoy many hours of hands-on practical experience of skills and competences expected of a biomedical scientist.

I have a great passion for supporting students with varying abilities and outside teaching, I am involved in research on different learning styles of students from diverse backgrounds and abilities. I enjoy exploring the world of biomedical science through lectures, practicals and simulations.

From the moment you start at University, our Career Connect team are here to support you on your career path.

Many of our graduates go on to work within the NHS. They may begin as medical laboratory assistants and, after completing their portfolio, apply for biomedical scientist roles.

Common employment routes include specialised areas such as the Blood Transfusion Service, microbiology, immunology and clinical biochemistry, working in either NHS, governmental or private laboratories.

A degree in Biomedical Science can lead to lots of exciting careers in healthcare, education, research and development, the life sciences industry, medical writing, technical sales and many other fields.

As a graduate in the subject, you will be a data-confident communicator, with the critical thinking skills needed to thrive in modern workplaces. You may even choose to follow your entrepreneurial dreams and carve out a novel niche for yourself as the world of employment continues to evolve.

Ian Davies, Associate Professor of Biomedical Science Practice at University of Staffordshire, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to the NHS Diagnostic Pathology Service and to Biomedical Science Education.

Trust is a biomedical scientist whose core discipline is histology and cytology. His main area of interest is lipidomics and nutrition with a focus on the effects of flavonoids on adipogenesis.

Grace is a biochemist as well as an active researcher in cellular/molecular biology. Her main interest is in cancer biology, understanding the mechanisms involved in cancer progression and exploring various approaches to inhibit cancer progression.

Steve is a Bioscientist with an interest in the evolution of the sense of smell and how this can be used in vector ecology and bio-hybrid sensors. He is an active researcher in the vector ecology of mosquitoes.
