Colin looks forward to welcoming you to BA (Hons) Film Production at University of Staffordshire.

Colin is an experienced Course Leader and Senior Lecturer in film production and a multi-disciplinary creative practitioner with over 20 years of experience in storytelling through sound and images.  His expertise spans professional filmmaking and teaching, allowing him to write, produce, direct, shoot, edit, and distribute creative content both independently and within a team.  Colin has completed over 500 commissions, which have provided him with unique experiences and the ability to navigate complex organizational, technical, and creative challenges.

He has worked with renowned global brands such as Shell, Airbus, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestlé, Hilton Worldwide Resorts, Honda, BBC, NHS, and Alton Towers Resort, amongst others.  These diverse commissions have helped shape Colin’s broad expertise, making him a versatile and experienced professional in the film production industry.  Through his career, he has developed a deep understanding of the creative process, consistently delivering high-quality content across a range of sectors and industries.

Highlights from Film Production this year at University of Staffordshire

Congratulations on your offer to join our vibrant and popular Film Production degree within the department of Creative Industries at University of Staffordshire.

We wanted to share some of the exciting highlights from across all years of study on the course this year, to give you a flavour of what you could be experiencing when you join our dynamic filmmaking community.

From shooting their first films on a residential trip in the Lake District, to screening them for industry professionals, our first-year filmmakers have hit the ground running.  Students across all levels are building showreels and careers through live briefs with Stoke City FC, bursaries from local production companies, and advice from our successful alumni.  With opportunities like the RTS Careers Fair and bursary schemes, our Film Production course offers real-world experience and strong industry connections from day one.

Clermont-Ferrand short film festival

As a member of our filmmaking community at Staffs, it's not just domestic experiences that can form part of your learning.  

Thirty BA (Hons) Film Production students spent an unforgettable week at the 2025 world renowned Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France.  Attending now for 15 editions of the festival, Staffs students were able to dive into a vibrant global celebration of cinema, with full industry accreditation for the duration of the festival.  They explored cutting-edge short films, networked with filmmakers from around the world, and gained fresh inspiration and international insight to take back into their own creative work.

Stephen's teaching centres on broadcast programme histories and media performance, especially acting on television. His research interests include broadcast light entertainment and comedy, television drama, and children's programming.

Senior Lecturer

Dr Andrew Stubbs is Senior Lecturer of Film Industries and Studies in the Department of Creative Industries. He is also the postgraduate research coordinator, co-lead for the C3 research centre, and his department’s ethics coordinator.
