Television continues to attract and challenge different audiences through a range of different platforms and viewing practices. You will explore the key concepts of television production, allowing you to make television content to demonstrate your understanding of its visual and sound-based properties, as well as understanding the different production roles that contribute to an effective output. This includes learning about the practical techniques of production in a multicamera studio. You will also undertake technical training to effectively use the production equipment safely and creatively, alongside post-production techniques to produce broadcast content.¿

Film and Media Professional Development is an introduction to developing the key skills needed to successfully study film and media at undergraduate level. It is an opportunity for you to develop academically, personally, and professionally within the discipline. This module will develop your understanding of legal and ethical constraints on reporting and on the media in general. It is specifically designed for people who will work in the media, whether this be print, broadcast or online. You will learn to understand the legal obligations and codes of practice under which journalists work. A focus on the vital areas of contempt of court, defamation and privacy are at the centre of the module. You will also learn how to use this knowledge to critique others’ writing and content and evaluate any potential legal or ethical risks.

This module looks at how acting and presentation performances are negotiated by audiences and the viewing pleasures associated with this interaction. This will include how different genres of films and programming have influenced certain styles of performances and how, importantly, audiences have interacted with these.

Media Production: Drama and Documentary provides an understanding of the production process involved in making drama and documentary output. It gives an overview of the pre-production, production, and post-production elements, with reference to the importance of ideas and subject research, visual composition, and audio production. It aims to provide an understanding and overview of the full production process from concept to postproduction and the importance of collaboration and teamwork. It develops the basic production skills required in camera, sound and editing and the interdisciplinary skills of communication, organisation, and planning, which are vital to successful drama and documentary production.

Television and radio are constantly evolving media, and the roles of producers and presenters have changed in recent years. Production Journalism and Design skills are also still in demand and coveted by the industry, both print and online. This module gives you an understanding of the various components that contribute to the production of visual and sound-based content, exploring a range of skills including producing report packages and magazine-based content, giving you a solid grounding in professional broadcasting and news content creation. You will devise your own radio/TV and online packages to connect with different audiences and develop you presentation and writing skills. You will also learn how to design for print and web, including many of the sub-editing skills still considered essential in the media industry. Creative Media Project provides an opportunity to produce relevant research, planning, scheduling, and pre-production work for production in different media, whether television, audio, radio, film or other media outlets. It will formulate a personal development plan in the form of a Learning Contract in relation to a chosen medium with a supervisor. It will consolidate the knowledge, skills and experience gained during previous levels, refining working methods, and adopting a professional approach. It will devise a personal programme of study that demonstrates and exploits the knowledge and experience you have acquired and developed.

This module is designed to offer a platform for students' multi-media skills and display them online and in internal broadcasts. Students will be expected to originate sports stories and deliver to a target audience preparing video, audio and online submissions.
