Studying Criminology

Introducing your course leader - Louis Martin

I am Louis Martin and I will be your course leader for Criminology. Prior to teaching at University of Staffordshire, my career was in the police with Derbyshire Constabulary. During my time in the police, I dealt with all aspects of crime investigation and roads policing.

At the end of my policing career, I focused on homicide investigations and serious crime. I am the pathway lead for the offender management pathway and have helped many graduates obtain employment in the criminal justice system. I use my connections with the prisons and probation service to deliver an up-to-date and informed range of criminology modules aimed at preparing students for work in the justice sector.

As part of our course, students undertake simulation exercises utilising our brand-new £2.2m facilities, replicating scenes in our prison cell, custody suite and office spaces.

This helps them prepare for real-life settings, providing them with the skills that employers are looking for.
