Welcome to your Business Management (Human Resource Management) course

Welcome to University of Staffordshire

We know you're already passionate about your subject, which is why we're excited you've chosen University of Staffordshire as the place to turn possibility into reality.

To give you an insight into what life as a Business Management (Human Resource Management) student is like, your course leaders have prepared introductions to the course and further activities.

Welcome to your BSc (Hons) Business Management (Human Resource Management) course. We cannot wait to meet you.

We are confident that you will enjoy this course and through it, develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that is needed in the current and ever changing HRM profession.

Course delivery

There is an emphasis on practice-based learning and learning by doing approaches to supplement the more traditional approaches of lectures, guest speakers, tutorials, workshops, seminars and a virtual learning environment (VLE) will complement and enhance traditional face-to-face learning.

Knowledge and skills will be developed through case-studies, role-plays, simulations, presentations, projects, reflective portfolios and use of technology supported activities.

Typically, you will receive 4 hours of teaching per module each week. This time will be split between talks or presentation and seminars, demonstrations, discussions, problem solving activities and assessment development activities.

Learning activities enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups of around 15-40 students. In addition, you will have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor at least twice a year.

Semester one activities

The first semester is designed to give you an introduction to Business Management and HRM. This will build upon any pre-existing knowledge and experience that you have, whilst also introducing you to new concepts and ideas.
