Siva welcomes you to Aeronautical Engineering

Siva Marimuthu would like to welcome you to the BEng (Hons) Aeronautical Engineering course. Siva is currently a Senior Lecturer in Aeronautical Engineering and the course leader for both undergraduate and postgraduate aeronautical programmes within the Department of Engineering. 

Siva has a wealth of aero experience and has earned aeronautical engineering-related academic & research experience from across India, Malaysia, & the United Arab Emirates. 
His main areas of research interest are aerodynamics, aircraft design, biomimetics, CFD and R-machine learning and has published various research papers in reputed journals and conferences. He was recently nominated by the Royal Aeronautical Society to be an aerodynamics chair at the CEAS Aerospace Europe Conference, held at Torino, Italy. He has developed a new programme called Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering Technology (Aircraft) with Honours, the first of its kind in Malaysia and developed many new modules such as aerodynamics, aircraft propulsion, aircraft design project and flight dynamics at the University of Staffordshire.

He is supervising many undergraduate and postgraduate research (including PhD) projects. and is a reviewer and editorial/technical board member at many reputed journals and conferences. Siva organises the Airbus wing manufacturing site visit to Wales for all the aeronautical students, every academic year. He organised numerous events such as the International Conference on Aeronautics, Astronautics and Aviation, Technical Symposiums and Guest Lectures. Siva delivered many guest lectures and invited talks to several educational institutions worldwide. He was honoured with the Indian Faculty Leader Award for his contribution to the aeronautical community and the Kajal Mallick Memorial Award for one of the best research publications. He is a member of many professional bodies, such as the Royal Aeronautical Society, Malaysia Board of Technologists, Institute of Aeronautics, Astronautics and Aviation. Siva is also a Chartered Engineer and Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy.

Hello, my name in Osian, I'm 24 and I'm from a quarry town in Cymru (Wales).  I'm in my foundation year in aero. 

Ever since I was a kid my grandpa and dad always took me to see air shows and look at old aircraft in museums.  It was a lot later that I realised that I wanted to do a course that was meaningful to me and my history.  When covid happened I lost my chance to go to university, I had to go straight into work.  A few years later I took a big jump for my future and applied for the Aeronautical Engineering with a foundation year.  With being out of the education for a while, it's really helped me out with the foundation year - remembering how to do assignments and math.  

University of Staffordshire is welcoming, any person you talk to whether that's staff or student are extremely kind.  Coming back into education I had forgotten all my skills that I had, I'm thankful for all the assignments that we have gotten as I'm learning all the skills again.  One of the key skills I've learned is citing, quoting and reference work - big thanks to Humza for all the help with that.

Experience wise it is amazing to have the flight sim as it's great to be able to learn how to react when aircraft has issues.  

I highly recommend aeronautical as its a growing industry and University of Staffordshire has really good lecturers that will give up their time to help you, they will do everything they can.  Not many other university's foundation year lectures do that.
