Alongside your degree, you’ll gain a Level 5 qualification in Management and Leadership from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)*

Simulation and real-world learning

You’ll work with real companies on innovation projects and will be immersed in business simulations and enterprise challenges

Every breakthrough starts with someone willing to think differently. To take an idea, turn it into action and make a real impact.

This course will help you build the confidence, creative thinking and commercial skills so your ideas count. All vital attributes for your future career, whether you want to launch your own venture or drive innovation within an existing company.

Choose this pathway if you want to turn ideas into action, develop new products or services, lead innovation within an organisation, or build a venture of your own.

Through our Be-Inspired programme, you can even get your start-up off the ground, with access to grants, training and mentoring.

We’ll teach you how to spot and grasp opportunities. Develop leadership skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. And create the solutions that address tomorrow’s challenges.

You’ll learn by doing. Through live projects, collaborative enterprise activities and working with real businesses as a consultant. It could involve anything from launching a product to developing sustainable practices.

You’ll also be immersed in business simulations, where you could be running a company or tackling critical scenarios. Experiencing what it’s like to make key decisions about strategy, finance, operations and marketing.

You can draw on our industry contacts – from Bentley to bet365 – and gain valuable insights from our entrepreneurs in residence too.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Business Management (Enterprise and Innovation)

Duration

University of Staffordshire undergraduate courses are usually 3 years for full-time study.

Courses which offer other study options have longer durations:

Course content

This course is all about putting your ambition to work. You’ll become a creative problem-solver who can grasp opportunities and help businesses stay ahead of the competition.

You won’t just learn it, you’ll experience it. You’ll be working with real clients and collaborating on projects. We also use simulation-based activities so you can practise your skills and develop your confidence in a safe space.

You might develop and pitch a new business concept, respond to a simulated company crisis or work with an organisation to solve a live innovation challenge.

You’ll discover how innovation really works inside organisations and how businesses generate ideas, create value and respond to competitive environments.

As we turn the spotlight on venture creation, you’ll work in a team to develop and pitch a viable business concept. Applying analytical tools, market insights and entrepreneurial thinking as you shape your ideas.

You’ll also explore ethical decision-making, put business strategy and financial decisions into action, and learn how to tell your story through brand and marketing.

Along the way, you’ll work alongside experienced academics and business professionals who understand what it takes to innovate, grow organisations and build successful careers.

And to help give you the edge for your career, we offer double accreditation. It means you’ll get a leadership and management qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) as well as your degree.*

Whether launching your own start-up, joining an ambitious scale-up, driving innovation within a global organisation or championing social enterprise, you’ll graduate ready to make a difference.

*We continuously update our course modules to ensure our curriculum reflects the latest industry trends and insights. Our module content is refined in collaboration with professional and regulatory bodies and partners. As such, our courses are currently undergoing re-accreditation.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching

You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, industry visits and independent study, with plenty of opportunities to apply what you learn to real business situations.

Your learning will go beyond traditional lectures. You'll take part in live business challenges, consultancy projects, business simulations and collaborative problem-solving, giving you opportunities to test your ideas, make decisions and explore how businesses respond to real-world challenges.

We also use creative and playful approaches to learning where appropriate, helping you develop your confidence, creativity and ability to work with others. You'll be encouraged to look at business from different perspectives and consider how organisations can respond to the changing business landscape.

Seminars give you the opportunity to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups. You'll also have timetabled meetings with your academic mentor at least twice a year, giving you dedicated opportunities to discuss your progress and development.

Assessment

Assessment methods depend on the modules you will be studying. The primary methods of assessment are coursework and evaluative assignments, digital portfolio development, in-class tests, presentations (both individual and group) and examinations. Most modules include a tutorial-based assessment worth approximately 10%, giving you credit for applying your learning through practical classroom activities.

Learning support

In addition to the excellent support you will receive from your course teaching team, our central Academic Skills team provides group and one-to-one help to support your learning in a number of areas. These include:

  • study skills such as reading, note-taking and presentation skills
  • written English, including punctuation and grammatical accuracy
  • academic writing and how to reference
  • research skills
  • critical thinking and understanding arguments
  • revision, assessment and examination skills
  • time management

Additional support

Our Student Inclusion Services support students with additional needs such as sensory impairment, or learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

Feedback

Your course will provide you with opportunities to test your understanding of your subject informally before you complete the formal assessments. Each module normally includes practice or 'formative' assessments for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark. There is a formal or 'summative' assessment at the end of each module and the grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark. You will normally receive feedback on coursework assessments within 20 working days following the date of submission. Examination feedback may take a variety of formats. However, as a minimum, generic feedback will be made available to all students who take written examinations.
